League City's Holiday Season Runs Through the Historic District Three Saturdays Straight

November 5, 2026

From November 28 through December 12, League City's holiday calendar comes back to the same few blocks of the Historic District around League Park three Saturdays in a row. A different organizer runs each one. The city opens the League Park events with a Shop Small market and its tree lighting. League City Proud follows with a three-day market and four parades. The League City Historical Society closes with quilts on porches and vintage trucks parked along the old streets. Each Saturday ends with an evening event that begins around 6 p.m.

Before and after those three weekends, the season happens away from League Park. It starts at South Shore Harbour and in a phone app, and it ends on residents' own front lawns. Here's the 2026 calendar in order, so you can see which weekends overlap and which ones stand alone.

Three Saturdays, three hosts

Saturday Host Daytime Evening
Nov. 28 City of League City Nutcracker in the Park market, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tree Lighting Ceremony, 6 to 7 p.m.
Dec. 5 League City Proud Organization Holiday in the Park market and Children's Holiday Costume Parade Grand Night Parade, 6:30 p.m.
Dec. 12 League City Historical Society Christmas in Old League City, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Clear Lake Christmas Boat Parade, 6 p.m.

The city's calendar listing puts the tree lighting at League Park, 512 2nd St. Visit League City's Winter Wonder guide has the other two Saturdays. Because each Saturday has a different host, each one runs differently. The first is mostly a market, the second is mostly parades, and the third spreads out from the park into the historic neighborhood.

The week before Thanksgiving happens by the water

Before anything happens at League Park, South Shore Harbour Resort gets the season going. Its six-foot gingerbread house goes on display November 19 and stays up through January 2, 2027. Visit League City says it took nearly 400 pounds of gingerbread to build.

That same weekend, Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre holds its Sugar Plum Fairy Gala weekend at the resort. On Friday, November 20, Dinner with Clara & Friends runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at Paradise Reef Restaurant, and nightgowns are encouraged. On Saturday, November 21, the gala offers breakfast or tea. Both include shopping at the Nutcracker Boutique, a preview of The Nutcracker, and photos with the Sugar Plum Fairy. Visit League City lists the 9:30 a.m. breakfast as sold out, so the 2 to 4 p.m. tea is the seating to plan around.

On November 23, the season starts heading back toward the park. That's the day the Nutcracker Scavenger Hunt opens in the free Visit League City TX! app. Players follow riddles to nutcrackers hidden at parks, historic sites and landmarks, and check in by scanning each one's QR code. If you find them all, you earn a badge and a prize. You pick the prize up at the Visitor Center inside SoulFreak Cafe at League Park. Finishers also go into weekly drawings and a grand-prize drawing for a gift bag of city merchandise. The hunt runs through January 3, 2027. With nearly six weeks to play, you can fold the hunt into trips you're already making for the three Saturdays.

November 27 and 28: the city opens the park

The weekend after Thanksgiving starts on Friday. The League City Folk Association and the League City Historical Society host Music in the Historic District from 7 to 10 p.m. on November 27 at League Park. The city's calendar lists it as free and family-friendly.

Saturday is a long day in one place. Nutcracker in the Park runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. as a Shop Small Saturday market with local makers, crafters, artists and small businesses. Food trucks are there from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. That leaves a gap in the afternoon. If you're staying for the evening, eat lunch at the park and plan dinner somewhere else. Visit League City also points shoppers to the Shoppes at Founder's Square and the other boutiques nearby in the historic district.

For younger kids, Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre teaches 30-minute ballet classes at 9:30, 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Each class includes music from The Nutcracker, a meet-and-greet with the characters, photo time and a holiday goodie bag. Space is limited and you have to sign up ahead, so register through Eventbrite before the day.

At 6 p.m., right as the market closes, the Tree Lighting Ceremony starts in the same park and runs until 7. After that night, the gazebo, the ornament bench and the big tree that Visit League City recommends for holiday card photos are all decorated, a week before the busiest weekend of the season.

December 4 through 6: League City Proud fills every hour

The next weekend, League City Proud takes over the same ground for the 29th annual Holiday in the Park. Visit League City calls it home to the largest holiday parade in Galveston County, with more than 150 vendor booths.

Friday, December 4, starts slowly. The market opens at 4 p.m. and stays open until 9. Mrs. Claus reads 'Twas the Night Before Christmas at 6:20, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman start at 6:30. The League City Chamber hands out free popcorn and hot cocoa during the movies. If you want to shop the booths without the Saturday crowds, Friday evening is the best time.

Saturday, December 5, runs from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Here's how the day lines up:

  1. 9 a.m. Vendor shopping and live entertainment start, and Pilates in the Park meets on the grass by the gazebo. CCISD Elementary District Choir is on the schedule, with choirs, orchestras and dance groups performing through the day.
  2. 9:30 a.m. Lineup for the free Children's Holiday Costume Parade, in front of Butler's Courtyard on 2nd Street.
  3. 10 a.m. The children's parade walks to the gazebo for a free photo with Santa. Bring your own camera, because families take their own Santa photos. League City Proud thanks Kevin Farquhar for being its Santa again this year.
  4. 5:30 p.m. Holiday music and performances start along Main Street.
  5. 5:55 p.m. The bells ring at historic St. Mary's Church, and the National Anthem follows at 6.
  6. 6:30 p.m. The Grand Night Parade starts, with floats moving down Main Street toward Park Street until about 9.

Sunday, December 6, brings League City's two most community-centered parades. Registration for the Extraordinary Individuals Parade opens at 10:30 a.m. in the children's play area, and the parade steps off at 11. Santa is back at the gazebo from noon to 2. Lineup for the Faithful Friends Holiday Pet Parade starts at 12:30, registration closes at 12:45, and the pets walk at 1:30. The weekend ends with Grand Night Parade awards and the raffle drawing at 4:40, then closing ceremonies at 4:50. Parade entries, vendor applications and the latest schedule are all on League City Proud's site, and that's the place to check before you head over.

December 12: Old League City by day, the harbor at 6

The third Saturday is the most spread out of the three. Christmas in Old League City runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit League City lists the Historical Society's WALKabout tours, the Airing of the Quilts, porch parties with music and art, hands-on demonstrations at the LCHS Museum, and restored vintage cars and trucks parked around the neighborhood. The Historical Society describes the quilt airing as an old tradition: owners hang heirloom and new quilts on the porches of historic homes, the way quilts were once aired in the sun before winter. This Saturday works best on foot. The Historical Society suggests picnic spots at League Park, Helen's Garden and the Schoolhouse museum.

The events in Old League City end at 3. Three hours later, the evening event moves from Main Street to the harbor. The Clear Lake Christmas Boat Parade starts at 6 p.m. in the Clear Lake channel, from South Shore Harbour Marina and Nassau Bay Lagoon, and passes the Kemah Boardwalk on its way out to Galveston Bay. Visit League City says the parade now draws more than 100,000 spectators and calls the Kemah Boardwalk the best public spot to watch. Several local boat charters also run viewing trips.

The parade's top prize has a local history. More than six decades ago, five Bay Area friends strung lights on their boats and took them out on Clear Lake. One of them was Red Adair, the oil well firefighter John Wayne later played in Hellfighters. The Red Adair Award for Best Overall Boat is named for him. The Kemah Boardwalk is calling this year's parade the 65th annual as part of its Jingle on the Boardwalk season.

December 20: the lights move to front yards

After December 12, the season leaves the Historic District. The last event on League City's calendar is the Community Lights Showcase on December 20. It's built around the city's 2026 Holiday Light Show Map, where residents can submit their own homes to be added to the map. You can find the map through Visit League City's Winter Wonder guide. For anyone already on the scavenger hunt, the nutcrackers stay in place through January 3, and the prize pickup is still inside SoulFreak Cafe at League Park.

For a light display outside town, Galaxy Lights, presented by Reliant, runs at Space Center Houston from November 14 to January 3. Inside League City, the lights showcase on December 20 is the season's final event.

If you're getting your own home ready for the holidays, or for the Light Show Map, and want to know how it would present to buyers in the new year, Onyx Realty Group is glad to help.
